THE BIG PICTURE PROJECT:
LIVE RECORD recognizes concerts as a way of communicating, connecting, and creating collective experiences. The project works to establish a new genre including the audience in the act of music-making and the intimacy of live-music. It does this by exploring overlaps in the social roles of performance, illustrating a live-music theory seen from multiple perspectives. It is a concert to walk through, listen to, watch, and perform in.
THE "NEXT" INSTALLATION:
The version of LIVE RECORD presented at NEXT 2022 visualized music by Sophie Lakin, "Breathing Underwater". It tested a spectrum of lighting effects describing the experience of being in ‘the crowd’. Visitors’ multiplied shadows became silhouetted by blue, undulating with the music like a collective breath. Handwritten lyrics representing ‘the performer’ created intimate experiences, even for visitors who may be unfamiliar with the music. The experience pulled visitors in and out of individual and collective experiences reminiscent of a concert. It is a performance you are invited to step into.

THE GOAL:
